| Summary: | ABSTRACT The present study corresponds to an in vitro research of the colonization levels of Cándida albicans in heat-curing acrylic and valplast system, materials used as a base for dental prosthesis. The objective was to evaluate the level of colonization of this yeast in these materials, using a descriptive, observational, and in vitro research framework, with the scientific theoretical foundation, analyzing the colonization process of this fungus in a qualified laboratory. The present investigation had a quasi-experimental design, using a non- probabilistic sample, of an intentional nature, with a sample of 15 heat-curing acrylic plates and 15 plates of the valplast system, subjected to contact with: Cándida albicans, which was activated on agar sabouraud, in a sterile environment and with oral cavity temperature conditions at 37 ° C, for 48 hours. The results reported an essential difference between the polished valplast surfaces, observing a lower amount of CFU / ml than the heat-curing acrylic. Unpolished heat-curing acrylic surfaces outperformed the valplast system with values greater than 100,000 CFU / ml. Therefore, it was determined that the level of colonization by this microorganism in heat-curing acrylic and valplast system denoted the existence of statistically significant differences between the values of CFU / ml and the groups of materials with polished and unpolished surfaces of acrylic from heat-curing acrylic and valplast system, being less for the latter material (p = 0.00). Keywords: Cándida albicans, heat-curing acrylic, valplast system, colonization level. Reviewed by: Mgs. Hugo Romero ENGLISH PROFESSOR c.c.0603156258 |
