Patrimonio Arquitectónico y Turismo Sostenible del cantón Riobamba, provincia de Chimborazo.

The main problem of the research project is the need for more strengthening of strategies for developing sustainable tourism, from the use of spaces that are part of the architectural heritage. For this, two variables have been defined, the independent variable: Architectural heritage, and the dependent variable: Sustainable tourism. At the same time, the objective is to determine the relationship between the architectural heritage and the pillars of sustainable tourism in the canton of Riobamba, province of Chimborazo. The type of research is a documentary, field, and applied, with an exploratory, descriptive, and correlational research scope, and with a non-experimental transactional design; all this, due to the bibliographic review, data collection in a single moment, and the presentation of relevant findings. In the development of the research, a quantitative approach was identified since the relationship between the variables will be determined. A survey was administered to obtain data to professionals from public institutions related to each of the study variables. The data obtained in the surveys were analyzed and processed in the IBM SPSS version 19 statistical program, and the Chi-Square test was applied to test general and specific hypotheses. Among the most relevant findings, it was identified that the architectural heritage contributes significantly to the sustainable development of the canton of Riobamba, province of Chimborazo. Thus, the creation of a communication strategy is considered. Finally, based on the results, a proposal was generated: "Guide: Identity, heritage, and architecture of the canton of Riobamba," which encompasses the criteria covered during the research and will serve as a strategy that can be applied as a complement in the development of tourism activities in the canton of Riobamba, province of Chimborazo.
