Итог:arterial hypertension is considered a chronic and systemic disease that affects universally with predominance of the female sex and with a incidence range above 45 years old. In spite of being considered an asymptomatic disease, it produces a large number of complications that can endanger the patient´s life. Objectives: To design a guide for hypertensive adult care in the institutions of the Ministry of Public Health in the city of Riobamba. Material and Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional study in 257 patients diagnosed with arterial hypertension and 18 general practitioners that belong to the Centro de Salud Licán and Hospital Provincial General Docente Riobamba. The general characteristics were determined, as well as the individual perception was estimated about knowledge related to the general and specific aspects of arterial hypertension. It was designed as a guide for the care of hypertensive adults. Results: The average age of patients of 47.03 ± 22.97 years and of general practitioners of 33.07 ± 7.93, with a predominance of female patients and general practitioners with 65.37% and 66.67% respectively. 41.53% of patients report that their general knowledge related to Arterial Hypertension (AH) is regular or bad. Conclusions: There is a diminished perception of knowledge about the general and specific characteristics of AH by patients and general practitioners Keywords: arterial hypertension; Clinical manifestations; Monitoring; Treatment.
