Its objective is to specify the predictive value of laboratory glycemic and renal profile tests to assess complications in diabetic patients. The research presents a qualitative approach, a descriptive documentary type carried out in a temporal sequence of cross-sectional cohort and being retrospective at the same time. We worked with a population of 151 scientific texts. From this number, a sample of 47 articles was obtained dealing with diabetes mellitus, its complications, and laboratory tests for its follow-up published on different scientific bases: Scielo, Redalyc, Elsevier, Latindex, Medigraphic, Proquest, Booksmédicos. The theoretical information was collected from first-hand articles published in scientific databases and books. The main results obtained show the average positive predictive value being 0.36 (36%) for the glycemic profile and 0.43 (43%) for the renal profile. Together they help assess, follow up, and control the diabetic patient. Altered values would represent decompensation in people with diabetes. It is concluded that performing the glycemic and renal profile tests in diabetic patients provides a predictive value for the development of long-term complications, several of the tests complement or correlate, helping to ensure adequate control in this population. |
