Symptoms include fever, pelvic abdominal pain, general malaise, and vaginal discharge. The diagnosis is clinical, cultures or images are rarely performed. Treatment is with antibiotics or therapeutic curettage. Among the complications we find intra-abdominal abscess, sepsis, peritonitis and others. Objective: To determine the risk factors and complications of puerperal endometritis at the Carlos Andrade Marín Hospital. Quito, 2016 - 2020. Material and methods: This study is analytical, descriptive, retrospective, where we reviewed 61 medical records of patients diagnosed with Other puerperal infections, obtained from the obstetric service of Hospital Carlos Andrade Marín in the period included January 2016 - December 2020. Results: By inclusion and exclusion criteria, the sample made up 18 patients with a diagnosis of puerperal endometritis, the age with the highest prevalence was between 20 and 29 years with 66.7%. Vaginal delivery represented 55.6%, among the risk factors: vaginosis represented 50%, UTI in 38.9%, premature rupture of membranes of more than 12 hours in 55.6%, 5 or more vaginal examinations 55.6%. Complications represented 33.3%, the most common was puerperal sepsis where a patient was subsequently hysterectomized. 33.3% of patients who did not respond to clinical treatment underwent therapeutic uterine curettage. Conclusions: analyzing the results, it was determined that there are many risk factors associated with puerperal endometritis. KEY WORDS: risk factors, puerperal endometritis, uterine infection.
