Shrnutí:Knowledge of national identity and culture is something that often fades over time, leading to the loss of cultural identity. For this reason, the following research aims to analyze otherness and the confrontation between cultures in the novel Atahuallpa by Benjamín Carrión. A qualitative research approach was used, which helped interpret various passages selected for analysis during the study. Additionally, hermeneutics was employed as a specialized tool for literary text analysis, proving essential for this research. Finally, after conducting a thorough analysis and interpretation of the selected passages, it was concluded that otherness in the novel is manifested in how the Incas and the Spaniards perceive each other: the Europeans view the Indigenous people as an exotic and subjugated people, while the Incas experience the arrival of the conquerors as a violent rupture in their worldview.
