Gaia:The main objective of this research is to include the waste from surgical masks that were used during the pandemic as a new constituent material for asphalt mixtures in the construction field. The materials used for the development of this research, such as stone aggregates and AC-20 asphalt, were provided by Covipal company and were used in making the conventional and modified mix, This last mixture was made by two methods, the first by dry method in which the surgical masks were manually crushed and incorporated as aggregate and the second by wet method where they were ground and added to the asphalt binder, once the samples were obtained they were tested by Marshall Method to obtain stability and flow values, additionally the tests were carried out to obtain the % of voids. Based on these results, a comparison of the values obtained was done. The results of the research show that by including the disposable surgical masks in the dry method, the stability of the mixture increased 3 times more, while in the wet method the values are similar without showing any improvement, with respect to the flow, it was reduced from 14.6 inches/100 which was the maximum of the conventional mixture to 5.7 inches/100. The inclusion of surgical masks in the asphalt mixes improved one of its mechanical properties such as stability, but the values of flow and percentage of voids did not meet the values given by the standard.
