Description
Summary:ABSTRACT The proposed research work was carried out to fulfill the aim of determining the risk factors for cholelithiasis and its possible complications observed at the (José María Velasco Ibarra) Hospital, 2019-2020. In Tena town, for this purpose, a type of descriptive, documentary research and a non-experimental design with a qualitative and a cross-sectional approach were used, 130 records of patients care with cholelithiasis to determine the level of incidence of the disease, pathology, the main risk factors, and the principal complications were analyzed. The results obtained indicate that the incidence is higher in women among age group of people between 25 and 44 years old, the most important non-modifiable risk factors associated with cholelithiasis were the female sex, especially women with multiple births, significant evidence was found that age, BMI, smoking, frequent alcohol intake, race, or comorbidities were related to the manifestation of cholelithiasis pathology. It was also determined that there is no significant correlation between sex and age as risk factors for cholelithiasis. The main complications found were recurrent cholelithiasis, cholecystitis and hepatic steatosis. Of the obtained results, it is recommended to improve diagnoses and medical procedures, as well as patient care and may provide the complete information of the patient´s condition and the need to comply to doctor´s recommendations.
