Responsabilidad Social Periodística: Análisis Crítico del Discurso de Diario El Comercio de los editoriales y columnas de opinión referentes al Paro de octubre de 2019 (octubre 2019 — marzo 2020)

The present research work is based on the critical analysis of discourse, brought up by Teun A. van Dijk, and his contribution of several theories of communication, such as critical and structural theory, and the journalistic work of El Comercio newspaper. This proposal is related to journalistic ethics, the social responsibility of this profession, and the use of language as a mechanism to generate positions, meanings, and control, discursively, the contexts. Through this methodology, it was proposed to reveal the position of this mode of communication, and its relationship with the political power in office, in the October 2019 strike, in order to demonstrate the social responsibility of El Comercio newspaper with its audiences. Its editorials and opinion pieces were taken into account to point out how mental schemes are built, through discourse, contrary to social movements and their legitimate right to resistance. Finally, El Comercio has shown that it chose in favor of the Government Lenín Moreno, it´s evident in its editorials. With discursive resources such as silence, hyperbole, metaphors or euphemisms, contexts were built to interpret the events from the perspective of the official discourse. On the other hand, in their opinion pieces, the results are different, however they have taken into account a focus in the field of Human Rights, that prioritize people's lives, and their integrity, over economic resources or material losses, the ex- president Lenín Moreno, was questioned.
