Descripció
Sumari:When talking about the material object of study of the present research, which in this case is glass ionomer as a base in direct restorations, the latter is known as a water-based biomaterial, because of an acid-base reaction; it is considered as a cavity base in direct restorations due to its beneficial properties; it should be emphasized that it also presents some limitations. The research had a qualitative approach because we sought to acquire relevant information through a content analysis guide where concise information regarding the use of glass ionomer as a base in direct restorations was analyzed and highlighted. Glass ionomer has the capacity to release fluoride ions, has a chemical adhesion to the dental tissue, has a contraction rate like that of the natural tooth, which reduces the risk of fractures and filtrations; however, it has some limitations, such as having a lower mechanical resistance. When analyzing the use of glass ionomer as a base for direct restorations, it was established that they are useful due to their favorable properties; however, their limitations mean that more studies are needed to evaluate their durability and longevity as a base for direct restorations. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to carefully consider its properties and the patient's needs before using glass ionomer as a base for direct restorations.
