LA INFLUENCIA TEOLÓGICA DE MONSEÑOR LEONIDAS PROAÑO EN LA RECONSTRUCCIÓN DE LA CATEDRAL DE RIOBAMBA.

The purpose of this research project is to analyze the theological influence that Monsignor Leonidas Proaño had in the reconstruction of the Cathedral of Riobamba, although at the beginning he did not agree with the construction of said temple precisely because it was a symbol of ecclesial power, and given the pressures he received from the wealthy sectors he proclaimed, for me the mission is to raise the indigenous peoples who are the living temples of God here fallen and exploited "For me, an Indian is worth more than the cathedral."The research includes the years 1954 to 1985, using the historical method in order to determine aspects that occurred in the past, we went to the literature review of magazines, local press, archives, etc ... The religious temple was rescued from the rubble of the old Riobamba destroyed in the earthquake of 1797, in the decade of the 50s, due to the conditions of the materials and the lack of maintenance the roof and much of the facade of the temple deteriorated, the riobambeños Catholics and Bishop Monseñor Leonidas Proaño felt the need to rebuild, which began to be intervened on April 17, 1967 on the plans of the riobambeño architect Carlos Velasco, in Andean Baroque style, built in white limestone with reliefs in aboriginal and Spanish expressions, from a historical perspective highlighting the importance in the religious and social context, uniting the peoples through the liberating message that was try mainly admitted to the indigenous and peasant sector, from this the Evangelization of the riobambeña population takes place, and to try to rescue today the theological thought of Monsignor Leonidas Proaño.
