Sumari:Antimicrobial resistance has been transformed into a serious global public health problem, which is generated by the incorrect use of antimicrobials also called self- medication, the microbicidal effect is reduced which generates multiresistance. Extracts obtained from plants are considered as the main source for the search for new antimicrobials. The objective of the study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of ethanolic extracts of Hedyosmum sp. of the Jacarón Chimborazo-Ecuador forest, against infectious species: Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, Candida krusei, Candida tropicalis, Candida parapsilosis, Serratia marcescens, Salmonella sp, Enterobacter sp. The extract was obtained from branches and leaves of the plant material, using the method of ethanolic maceration and rotavaporation. The yield was 1.27% in branches and 1.57% in leaves. The antimicrobial activity was detected through the Kirby-Bauer method and interpreted by measuring the inhibition halos. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined using dilutions from 250000 ug/mL to 15625 ug/mL. Bacteria, Serratia marcescens and Enterobacter sp were the microorganisms most sensitive to the action of the extract, while the levaduriform microorganisms showed no susceptibility to the antifungal action of the extract. The approximate WCC against Serratia marcescens and Enterobacter sp. It was 31250 ug/ mL, It concluded that the extract of Hedyosmum sp. It turned out to be active against the gram-negative bacteria Serratia marcescens and Enterobacter sp., microorganisms such as C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. krusei, C. tropicalis and C. parapsilosis did not show antifungal activity due to the greater resistance of their cell Wall.
