| Yhteenveto: | The objective of this research was to describe the management of the leading medical emergencies in dental care from a clinical and pharmacological approach. The basis of this study is the literature and the revision of scientific articles published in the last ten years, using databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar and Elsevier. Seventy-one items were collected, selecting those that had the impact factor of the published magazine through the Scimago Journal Raking (SJR). Finally, the systematic review lets to obtain 56 articles. After analyzing the scientific articles, the common medical emergencies in dental care, for example, vasovagal syncope, hypoglycemia, angina pectoris, seizure crisis, anaphylactic reaction, asthmatic crisis and airway obstruction were established. The increase in publications about medical emergencies in dental care in recent years has been a topic of greater relevance in developed countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom, while in Latin America (Brazil) there are very few studies on the subject. Therefore, the knowledge of dental students and dentists to act in an emergency was insufficient, so the importance of improving the curriculum for the area of dental emergencies need to be emphazied; including training in basic life support, cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques, correct administration of oxygen and intravenous medications, as well as continuing education where dentists can continue training. |
