Conocimientos y prácticas de enfermería en cuidados paliativos. Hospital Provincial General Docente Riobamba. abril - agosto 2018

This investigation was carried out in the Internal Medicine department of the Provincial General Docente Hospital Riobamba, in order to determine the knowledge and practices of nursing in Palliative Care, during the period April-August 2018. This study was descriptive, cross-sectional. The study population consisted of 12 nurses who work in this service. Two instruments were applied; a survey that identified the professionals' knowledge about the topic and an observation guide that helped to assess the nursing practices and actions in palliative care. The results obtained in the survey were that the Nursing staff in 54% do not dominate the issue of Palliative Care while 46% have knowledge about the goals and bases of care. Through the guide it was observed that 52% do not perform the interventions; being this the percentage with greater relevance. With these results, it was determined the need to design an educational guide on palliative care for nursing staff of the service, who possess the necessary components for nursing professionals to provide comprehensive palliative care.
