| Summary: | The current research project refers to assessing the degree of surface roughness of composite resins subjected to different carbonated beverages. The research design was observational, comparative, bibliographic, transversal, quantitative, and in vitro. UNACH students surveyed to determine the most consumed carbonated drinks, the brand, and tone of resins used in the University Odontological Clinic. The population was conformed by 30 discs of Brilliant Ng resin (Coltene) of 8 mm long by 2 mm deep. The samples were distributed in 3 groups of 10 discs each, Group 0 (Artificial Saliva), Group 1 (Coca-Cola), and Group 2 (Vive 100); these were measured with the TESTER SRT- 6200 digital roughness meter. Before the exposure process to the different substances, a finishing and polishing protocol was carried out, and the initial surface roughness was taken to establish the changes after applying the different substances. The exposed resins were placed for 12 days in a portable incubator at 37 degrees centigrade, simulating the daily consumption of 12 months. The results showed that no statistically significant differences were found in the initial roughness measurements among the samples. Statistically, significant differences were found regarding the final roughness values both in Group 0 (p=0,012), Group 1 (p=0,00), and Group 2 (p=0,00), of which Group 1 was the one that presented higher roughness values in the materials. |
