“PROTECTORES DE NATURALES EN LA CIUDAD DE RIOBAMBA EN LA SEGUNDA MITAD DEL SIGLO XVIII (1750-1800)”

The present research has as mam objective to compare the true job of the protectors of naturals in the city of Riobamba in the second half of the l8th century (1750-1800), in conflicts presented by the natives. As well as to clarify m what way and about which degree level the rights of indigenous people were respect, also if the creation of some legislation implanted by the Spanish Crown for the guards of natural, truly improved the life of the indigenous people. In Riobamba, the natives were subjected to constant mistreatment and abuse by Spanish and local authorities. The natives got into conflicts even with the same indigenous people with die same conditions about matters of possession and usurpation of lands, on the other hand, they also had to fight against tax impositions by the Spanish authorities, as well as constant robberies and mistreatment by the landowners. The local authorities of Riobamba did not fulfil the rights of the indigenous people, which are contained in the book on Indian legislation, dictated by King Carlos II, entitled "Compilation of the laws of the kingdoms of the Indies, book six, second volume", in which it is written die regulations for the indians protectors correct job, the indigenous dress care, and their protection, also about the good care of the Indians, taxes appraisal, and the good coexistence between Spaniards and natives.
