| Gaia: | Self-harm behaviors are a latent practice in the adolescent population, resulting from inadequate handling of coping strategies. For this research, a quantitative bibliographic approach with a documentary character and a descriptive level was chosen, with a sample of 55 scientific articles, with criteria of good, very good, and excellent methodological quality, validated by the Critical Review Form-Quantitative Studies (CRF-QS) instrument. The purpose of this research was to determine the coping strategies used by adolescents who exhibit self-harming behaviors. The study identified that 75% of adolescents with self-harm behaviors use of avoidance strategies, followed by self-blaming, positive reappraisal, and social support each with 8.33%. Studies show that adolescents resort to self-harm behaviors in 96.6% of cases, with NSSI type being 61.54% and ACIS 38.46%; it was also observed that 80% of the self-harm incidents involve cuts, while the remaining 20% is divided among hitting, scratching, pinching, and biting their lips. Finally, the significant relationship between coping strategies and self-harming behaviors in adolescents was described, as the more significant the use of unproductive strategy, the higher the incidence of self-flagellation. Consequently, during adolescence, it is crucial to provide psychoeducation about coping strategies. By equipping adolescents with the knowledge to tackle challenges productively, they are not only provided with resources to avoid risky behaviors, but it also contributes to suicide prevention, considering that self-harm precedes this issue. |
