| Summary: | Sarcopenia is known as a disease that affects the musculoskeletal system as it is characterized by the loss of mass and strength and thus muscle function; its progression is related to aging and changes that occur in the ability to produce strength in the muscle, the prevalence of this disease worldwide is 5 to 13% in people aged 65 to 70 years, and in those over 80 years reaching even up to 50%. For this reason, the physiotherapeutic approach through resistance exercise is a significant intervention proposal for the elderly population with Sarcopenia to provide greater independence in daily activities. This is documentary-type research that was carried out to analyze and relate the effects of resistance exercise in the physiotherapeutic approach to Sarcopenia and provide a source of updated academic information. The information gathered comes from reliable and scientific bibliographic sources, obtaining 100 articles, of which 31 were included following a methodological analysis and evaluation process. The results show characteristics of the study population and the positive effects of resistance exercise in Sarcopenia, such as improved strength and muscle mass, improved independence in activities of daily living, and improved quality of life in the older adult population. |
