Özet:The present research was evidenced from the implementation practices in which it was detected that there is a poor reading comprehension and therefore a low academic performance in the students of the fifth year of Basic Education parallel “E” therefore had as objective to determine the influence that has the reading comprehension in the academic performance. The research was qualitative, and the inductive – deductive methods were used, because the relationships of causality were considered, starting from particular facts to reach to general situations; For this purpose, a field work was used and worked with 30 students of the fifth year parallel “E”. The technique applied was the observation, which allowed us to collect data to record the evidence. At the end of the work, it was concluded that reading comprehension positively influences in the academic performance of language and literature, that is, to a better reading comprehension, and a greater academic performance which in turn is an indicative of a higher level of learning.
