Riassunto:ABSTRACT In the present research work, maternal hypothyroidism is related to fetal complications, thyroid disorders have great importance in the quality of life of the human being and even more when talking about the period of pregnancy, the present investigation addressed the negative impact that hypothyroidism has in the fetal stage as well as possible associated maternal complications in a study never before carried out in our environment, understanding the city of Riobamba, the objective of the research carried out is to determine the complications of hypothyroidism in pregnant women and how to prevent them, for which the database of the AS400 system of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security of the city of Riobamba during the period January - December 2020, the research carried out is characterized by being descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional, due to the fact that it worked with collected data of the medical records of patients in a pregnant state aten given in the Gynecology and Obstetrics service in the aforementioned period, obtaining shocking results, the results obtained show that the Chimboracense population has a high incidence of thyroid diseases in its general population compared to the rest of the country; especially in women, the prevalence of hypothyroidism in pregnancy was determined in 37% of the women studied, the main recommendation that could be offered is to raise awareness in the general population of hypothyroidism and its associated problems as well as to instruct the general population on a diet rich in iodine.
