Revitalización del tejido artesanal en telar en la ciudad de Riobamba provincia de Chimborazo

The research, "Revitalization of handloom weaving in the city of Riobamba, province of Chimborazo," was undertaken with a sense of urgency. The objective was to analyze and document the methods, techniques, processes, and characteristics of handloom weaving in the city of Riobamba, province of Chimborazo. Over time, this practice has lost prominence due to different industrial factors and decreased interest in learning this skill. However, weaving is essential to Andean communities' identity and cultural value, which needs immediate revitalization and transmission. For this purpose, we applied a robust methodology based on documentary and field research, descriptive in scope, with an ethnographic and quali-quantitative approach and the use of research instruments such as interviews and surveys conducted with artisans and the economically active population of the city of Riobamba. This allowed us to unearth crucial social, economic, and daily factors in the lives of the artisans and the citizenry, which can significantly inform future revitalization strategies. The surveys and interviews were applied, and it was concluded that Riobamba citizens do not have a broad knowledge of the practice of weaving. However, there is a significant role for the community in supporting and implementing strategies to revitalize and preserve existing ancestral methods in the locality. Your involvement is crucial in this endeavor. Finally, it was concluded that a center of handicraft interpretation in Riobamba, which aims to be an interactive space linked to transmitting and safeguarding cultural practices and expressions, should be implemented.
