It highlights that, despite important challenges such as the loss of ancestral knowledge, the low valuation of handicrafts, the lack of innovation, the strong competition from imported products and the disinterest of younger generations, artisans manage to combine tradition and innovation to keep afloat their source of income and their cultural identity. The study highlights the importance of handicrafts in the economic, social and cultural development of the Guano canton and how they face the adversities of a globalized world. The hypothetical-deductive method was used, starting from the observation of facts - “Craft production and local development in the Guano canton” - to formulate hypotheses and contrast results through research and data collection by means of surveys. The data were processed through statistical tables and graphs, and the SPSS program was used to contrast the hypotheses, which allowed a clear and simple analysis. This is a descriptive study detailing the current state of artisanal activity; this approach helped us to obtain accurate and reliable results to understand and propose solutions to the challenges faced by artisans in the Guano canton. Craft production in Guano is based on its cultural identity, traditions, customs and ancestral knowledge transmitted by previous generations. It has great potential to generate income and employment and sustainably boost the local economy. The participation and cooperation of the various factors that influence handicraft production will contribute to the sustainable growth of Guano. |
