Shrnutí:The current research aims to characterize academic burnout and mental health among university students. The methodology used is descriptive and bibliographic through the processing of scientific sources. The sample consisted of 876 scientific articles from databases such as Scielo, Redalyc, Dialnet, and Google Scholar, with a non-probabilis t ic sampling based on selection criteria, comprising 45 articles. The researcher applied the CFR-QS (Critical Review Form-Quantitative Studies) instrument for methodologica l quality. The most predominant findings in the research indicated that academic burnout is a prolonged stress disorder that occurs in three dimensions: emotional exhaustio n, cynicism, and efficacy. It was possible to determine a high prevalence of academic burnout among university students due to its association with various environmenta l, familial, and academic factors, which generate psychological and physical symptoms that impair students' academic performance and, in turn, their mental health. There was the presence of mental health problems in the academic environment that affected performance within the university career; however, there were also students who possessed adequate coping strategies, tolerance to frustration, and self-efficacy, which led them to develop better in the academic context.
