Sumario: | This research project is based on one of the predominant themes in the poetic production of Juan Gelman (Argentina, 1930-Mexico, 2014): death, seen from different approaches and driven by his traumatic experience in exile. The main objective is to assess the representation of the thanatic or mortuary theme in Translations III. The poems of Sidney West (1969) by Juan Gelman. This descriptive study began with an exhibition on the representation of the theme of death in universal and Latin American poetry. It provided theoretical details on the epitaph as a lyrical expression to conclude with analyzing the poems belonging to the text in question. Through a hermeneutical and analytical methodology, the literary context was studied and the stylistic resources used by the author, based on a better understanding of the representation of the theme of death in his poetic work.
