Özet:The aim of this research was to determine the impact on labor productivity in the business sector of Zone 3 provinces (Cotopaxi, Chimborazo, Pastaza and Tungurahua) of Ecuador's planning, in the period 2016-2021. This research involved a quantitative approach, with non-experimental and longitudinal design. The use of SPSS carried out descriptive analyses, such as mean, standard deviation and frequencies of relevant variables, facilitating the initial understanding of the data. The sample was determined by large companies in Ecuador's Planning Zone 3. The findings evidenced that, in 2016, the initial productivity was USD 9,524 per worker, and from there, a steady growth was observed until 2019. This increase was mainly promoted by increased sales, asset optimization and an increase in wages and salaries, which allowed companies to improve the efficiency of their workforce. Business sales increased from USD 2,972 million to USD 3,789 million, facilitating expansion and investment in technology and training. However, in 2020, productivity fell sharply due to a sharp decline in sales (17.8%), an increase in indebtedness, and a growing labor burden despite cuts in employment and wages. During that year, companies faced a decline in revenues from USD 3,789 million in 2019 to USD 3,113 million, which reduced operating capacity and led to a decrease in employment. Active indebtedness increased to 3.90%, which negatively affected productivity.
