| Sumari: | The presence of potable water aids in the development of populations, yet potable water leaks occur due to deficiencies in distribution system components, resulting in water loss and economic losses. Preventive maintenance is essential for distribution network care, enabling timely leak repair interventions. In the cities of Quero and Cevallos, Ecuador, losses stem from the physical state of the distribution network, clandestine connections, and pipe breakages. This study employs quantitative methodology for data collection and analyze technical records showing leak incidence. Findings reveal Quero and Cevallos registering unaccounted water leak percentages of 11.83% and 14.10% respectively from 2018 to 2022. The overall system yield for Quero is 92.10% and for Cevallos is 81.46%, categorizing the system as ‘Very Good’. Economic losses during the study period are estimated at $32,992.29 for Quero and $170,401.55 for Cevallos. Based on results, preventive activities and network improvement initiatives are proposed to enhance system performance and prevent leaks. |
