| description | The agricultural sector in Ecuador is of utmost importance; it provides a source of income to many families; this action requires an irrigation system that supplies the necessary humidity to the crops, and the products are not affected. Therefore, irrigation water quality provides profitable production and harvests of considerable volume, which is why this research was carried out. It aims to determine the quality of the water of the Guangopud Gatazo irrigation system. For this, within the irrigation system, eight sampling points were determined, in which studies were carried out on the physical-chemical and microbiological parameters such as temperature, pH, total dissolved solids, sulfates, chlorides, carbonates, bicarbonates, nitrates, calcium, sodium, magnesium and potassium, in addition, the indices of the Sodium Adsorption Ratio (RAS) and Residual Sodium Carbonate (RSC) were calculated, in the period March-May 2023. The values of the mentioned parameters are within the permissible limits of the MAATE and the FAO, except chlorides that exceed the allowable limits; however, based on the results obtained from the calculations of the different quality indices, they were classified as waters of good to excellent quality, that is to say, they are suitable for agricultural irrigation. In addition, conservation and mitigation measures that could be implemented to preserve the quality of the water in the irrigation system were proposed. |

In addition, conservation and mitigation measures that could be implemented to preserve the quality of the water in the irrigation system were proposed.El sector agrícola en el Ecuador es de suma importancia, suministra una fuente de ingresos a muchas familias del país, para esta acción requiere de un sistema de riego, que suministra la humedad necesaria a los cultivos y los productos no se vean afectados, por lo tanto la calidad del agua de riego proporciona una producción rentable y cosechas de volumen considerable, por ello se realizó el presente trabajo de investigación, que tiene por objetivo determinar la calidad del agua del sistema de riego Guangopud Gatazo. Para lo cual, dentro del sistema de riego se determinaron 8 puntos de muestreo, en los cuales se realizaron estudios de los parámetros físico-químicos y microbiológicos como: temperatura, pH, sólidos disueltos totales, sulfatos, cloruros, carbonatos, bicarbonatos, nitratos, calcio, sodio, magnesio y potasio, además se calcularon los índices de la Relación de Adsorción de Sodio (RAS) y Carbonato de Sodio Residual (CSR), en el periodo marzo-mayo 2023. Los valores de los parámetros mencionados están dentro de los límites permisibles del MAATE, y la FAO, con excepción de los cloruros que superan los límites permisibles, sin embargo, con base en los resultados obtenidos de los cálculos de los diferentes índices de calidad, se clasificaron como aguas de buena a excelente calidad, es decir son aptas para riego agrícola.
