Crynodeb:This project aims to analyze the effects of thoracic expansion techniques in pediatric patients with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) as a physiotherapeutic treatment through a literature review. The search for information was conducted in specialized databases for the period 2019-2024, selecting a total of 27 articles that met the established inclusion criteria, which were evaluated and classified using the PEDro and CRF-QS scales to ensure the quality of the articles. The use of various thoracic expansion techniques is reported, such as manual hyperinflation, prolonged slow expiration (ELPr), as well as noninvasive ventilatory support in its different modalities (CPAP, NIPPV, BIPAP, among others). Despite the few publications on specific techniques for this pathology, promising evidence was found on the potential of these techniques to improve respiratory function in children. The review also highlighted the importance of specialized training of health professionals in these techniques and the need to consider the individual characteristics of each patient in their application. It is highlighted that, being manual, these techniques do not require sophisticated equipment, making them potentially beneficial in resource-limited settings. Further research is required to establish standardized protocols and evaluate long-term efficacy; however, this systematic review, by synthesizing the available evidence, could improve the management of BPD, identify research gaps and potentially optimize resources in resource-constrained settings. In addition, the study could influence professional training and contribute to improving the quality of life of affected patients.
