Beskrivelse
Summary:This paper is a review of the literature on acute laryngotracheitis. This condition usually occurs in children between 3 months and 2 years of age and is characterized by inflammation and obstruction of the upper respiratory tract. Its onset is more common in winter, when its incidence tends to increase. The leading cause is viral, with the Parainfluenzae virus being the most frequently involved. Contagion occurs through direct contact with contaminated bodily fluids or secretions. Its clinical picture is characterized by a classic triad: dysphonia, inspiratory stridor, and the characteristic tracheal or barking cough. Its diagnosis is purely clinical, and, based on its symptoms, it can be classified as mild, moderate, or severe. Treatment will be determined accordingly. The treatment of this pathology is tailored to the severity of the condition, primarily using corticosteroids in mild cases and hospitalization with nebulization and epinephrine in moderate to severe cases. To this end, an extensive literature review was conducted, comparing and highlighting the most effective treatments for this condition, depending on the patient's age and clinical presentation.
