Özet:Reading is essential in human life, and a person who cannot read or write is considered illiterate. This process is not limited solely to academic or scholastic instruction; throughout life, individuals are immersed in the reading process, and long before reaching school or an educational center, children are already involved in reading within their households, specifically within families. This research addresses reading from home and its impact on reading habits, establishing as its general objective the characterization of reading from home in second-year Basic General Education students at the "San Gerardo" Educational Unit to establish a diagnosis of family reading practices. The methodology follows a quantitative approach through a parent survey, which provides a comprehensive view of family reading practices. Results reveal that the frequency of family reading could be higher, and parents face various challenges, including time constraints, limited resources, and a lack of knowledge about effective strategies to promote reading. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that children who participate in reading activities with their parents demonstrate more significant interest in reading, underscoring the importance of family support in this process. Regarding the intervention proposal, the implementation of parent workshops, training sessions, and a family reading club is proposed, aimed at involving families in the educational process and improving reading practices at home. These actions are designed to provide parents with tools that enable them to support the development of reading habits in their children actively.
