Sumari:ABSTRACT In Latin America there are different cultural practices of ethnic groups where a universe of attitudes generated that intervene in decision-making regarding sexual and reproductive health. The objective of this document was to identify attitudes and cultural practices that influence contraception in the indigenous population of Latin America, for which a documentary study presented, carried out between the months of November 2020 and March 2021. A systematic review was carried out of published documents and by searching for scientific articles from national and international organizations published from 2017 to 2020, from indexed pages such as: Scielo, Dialnet, Elsevier, university repositories, Ministries of health from different countries, related to the subject. A documentary study presented where 40 sources of information taken, 18 of which used for an exhaustive analysis, after which it concluded that the cultural practices used in the majority of the indigenous population were the use of plants as a method. of contraception recommended by the Yachak or midwives of their communities who trained and have experiences to help women and men who require their service, facing this issue, the conditioning factors when talking about family planning were beliefs, taboo, machismo, religion, that get in the way when choosing a method and that are one of the triggers for maternal death in the indigenous population of Latin America.
