| Summary: | In the present investigation, the evolution of direct foreign investment and the behavior of employment in the agricultural, industry and services sectors are analyzed on a quarterly basis, during the period 2014 - 2021, with the objective of determining the influence of direct foreign investment on employment in the agricultural sector, industry and services in Ecuador. To meet the objective, an autoregressive model of distributed lags (ARDL) was used, which is considered as a dependent variable employment in the agricultural sector, industry and services; and as independent variables FDI and GDP of the three sectors, the statistical data were taken from official sources such as the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE) and the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC). Based on the results obtained by the econometric model, it can be affirmed that FDI in Ecuador influences employment in the services and industry sector, which implies that for each percentage unit that FDI increases, employment grows by 0.018% in the long term. for both sectors, while, in the short term, employment increases by 0.012% and 0.0068% in each aforementioned sector, thus establishing a positive and significant relationship. However, for the agricultural sector, FDI on employment is not significant in the long term, on the other hand, for the short term it presents an inverse relationship, that is, as FDI increases, it generates a decrease in employment by 0.003%. In this way, it is verified that foreign investment does not influence the sector in the long term, but in the short term it has a negative influence. On the other hand, the GDP is not significant in the long term in the agricultural sector, but it is for the industry and services sector, likewise, in the short term the services sector shows insignificant results, while, in the agricultural and industry shows that GDP is significant. |
