| Summary: | The present research seeks to restructure the old wholesale market of Guaranda by transforming it into a multi-purpose facility that integrates cultural, commercial, and recreational activities, meeting local needs and promoting social cohesion. Inspired by urban centrality, the project aims to become a new "lobby" of the city, uniting spaces for cultural and commercial exchange that connect the urban and rural sectors. For the market area, it was decided to prioritize the commercialization of dry products due to their high demand in the area, ease of storage, and durability; in addition, this approach allows the preservation of the original commercial function of the space. The diagnosis of the area, which included direct consultations with the community, showed a great need for recreational spaces and social meeting points. In response, the design proposes outdoor recreation areas, habitable zones, and urban recreational activities, such as using bicycles and scooters. In addition, the project proposes the creation of a cultural center that strengthens the link between urban and rural areas, with programs that teach local arts and crafts (for example, the production of saquillos and ropes), which will contribute to preserving the local cultural heritage. The project's architectural design emphasizes flexibility and accessibility through the inclusion of plazas and transitional halls that promote fluid circulation and facilitate free access for multiple uses. Finally, the project contemplates reorganizing the entrances and providing open spaces in each block, thus encouraging visitors to appropriate the space and facilitating community interaction. These characteristics ensure that the project responds to the immediate needs of the community and establishes itself as a central and accessible space for everyone in Guaranda. |
