סיכום:This research focuses on the revaluation of Parque Sucre in Riobamba, a heritage space that has progressively lost visibility and significance in collective life due to physical and symbolic deterioration. Despite its historical, social, and cultural importance, processes of urban modernization, institutional neglect, and limited public awareness have led many inhabitants to perceive it merely as a recreational area, weakening its symbolic and cultural meaning. The main objective of the study is to develop a proposal for the park’s revaluation. To achieve this, the perceptions of Riobamba’s citizens regarding the park as a symbol of cultural identity were analysed, along with its historical and architectural elements and the factors that have hindered its patrimonial appreciation. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, using surveys conducted in the urban parishes of Riobamba and a semi-structured interview with a heritage expert, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of public knowledge and expectations. Findings reveal limited knowledge about the park’s historical significance and its heritage assets; however, there is strong interest in accessing clearer information through technological resources and interpretive strategies that strengthen heritage education. The theoretical framework is based on the contributions of Nora (2008), Jelin (2002), and Smith (2006).
