| Samenvatting: | The research focuses on the analysis of the architectural and historical perspectives of the Unidad Educativa Pedro Vicente Maldonado building, located in the center of Riobamba city. A notable lack of knowledge about its history and the architectural styles present has been identified, which has led to significant neglect of the building. The main objectives of the research are: to identify and analyze the architectural styles and elements of the building, document its history, and understand its sociocultural importance from the perspective of its alumni. To conduct this research, a qualitative approach was used, combining direct observation and field study of the building, interviews with alumni, and iconographic analysis of its architectural elements through tables. The iconographic analysis was developed in three stages: pre-iconographic, iconographic, and iconological. The results indicate that, in addition to its aesthetic value, the building symbolizes historical grandeur and architectural changes over time. The research also reveals a deep emotional connection between alumni and the building, as evidenced by the creation of associations that reinforce cultural identity and collective memory. The main contribution of this research is to highlight the history of this institution, identify its architectural elements, and bring together both the history and architecture of this building in a single text. Additionally, the research project also seeks to enrich the cultural and patrimonial value that this building represents. The preservation of the Unidad Educativa Pedro Vicente Maldonado building is crucial not only for its architectural value but also for its sociocultural significance. It is recommended to promote activities that involve the community in the conservation of this important legacy, ensuring that future generations can appreciate its rich history and architecture |
