ANÁLISIS DE LOS ELEMENTOS ICONOGRÁFICOS DE LA FACHADA DEL SANTUARIO DE LA SANTÍSIMA VIRGEN MARÍA NATIVIDAD DE BALVANERA DESDE LA PERSPECTIVA DEL SINCRETISMO RELIGIOSO

The investigation was carried out with the purpose of analyzing the religious syncretism existing in the facade of the Balvanera Church. The need to provide reliable information is what prompts the professional to get involved in clear real contexts that will allow reconstructing certain historical facts, as is the case of the Balvanera Church. Some authors mention that the Spanish conquerors had a final battle that took place in Colta city of the Province of Chimborazo, where the triumph of the conquerors was determined due to the violent eruption of the Cotopaxi volcano, which was taken by the aborigines as an expression of anger of their gods. When winning the battle Benalcázar orders to build a church in gratitude and devotion to the virgin. This church is a real estate property of the Ecuadorian Cultural Heritage, it is part of the old Riobamba, for this work they worked Spanish and indigenous, the fusion of these two cultures allows the church to reflect a baroque-mestizo style, the construction started in full XVI century in the colonial era. The objective is to analyze the religious historical elements of the Blessed Virgin Mary Natividad de Balvanera from the perspective of religious syncretism. In this research the iconographic methodology will be handled with its three steps: pre-iconographic, iconographic and iconological. The contribution is to reconstruct the historical information of the Church, through a fragmented study of each of the religious historical elements. Finally, the Research Project seeks to assess the historical events aroused at certain times.
