要約:ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of Nifedipine as a tocolytic agent that inhibits uterine contractions. It was carried out at the José María Velasco Ibarra Hospital in the city of Tena, during the period 2021 – 2022, where a descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was carried out on a significant sample of medical records, with variables in the decrease of contractions due to the use of the medication and number of doses administered were also considered. In the same way these additional variables were arranged and included such as weeks of gestation, whether the pregnancy are twins or not, infections (urinary or genital tract) upon admission to the health home and other parameters that were considered to have an impact in some way on the patient's response to the medication; The data was created with the help of the SPSS statistical program, which showed as a primary result that the drug nifedipine had an effectiveness of more than 90% as a tocolytic. In addition, findings were made that reveal that the drug is effective if the entire application round is completed. which consists of impregnation and maintenance (20mg every 8 hours). It was also concluded that the length of stay in the hospital depends on the dose administered; It is important to emphasize that magnesium sulfate is used as a backup agent if nifedipine and statistical evidence shows that it is effective in the first 24 hours of its application, after that time its effectiveness decreases after 48 hours to more than half and disappears at 72 hours. We verified statistically that the use of the medication helps the pregnancy to come to term in treated women and favors normal delivery over cesarean section. Finally, it was identified that it is highly effective in women with previous vaginal infection. Keywords: Nifedipine, effectiveness, preterm pregnancy, vaginal infection, uterine inhibitor.
