Summary:This research work had as a pourpuse characterize the family functioning and academic performance of high school students of the Christian Education Unit “Nazareno”. 2018-2019, for which in the first place the functioning of the families was identified, as well as their academic performance was determined, to finally propose a plan of psychological intervention to strengthen the functioning of the families of the students, constitutes a documentary, descriptive, cross-sectional study, where 187 students from eighth to third year of high school participated. For the data collection the documentary review was used as a technique and an observation sheet as an instrument, based on the psychological records that rest in the DECE of the educational institution. Among the results obtained, it is worth highlighting that 53.5% of the population comes from a Moderately Functional family, 28.3% belongs to a dysfunctional family, and 16.6% declares they come from a Functional family and only 1.6% corresponds to a Severely dysfunctional family. Regard to the academic performance, 91.4% achieve learning in the classroom, 7% master academic learning and 1.6% are close to achieving learning, given this situation it is important to recognize the importance of family role in the raising and development of the people, this being the fundamental basis of society.
