Sammanfattning:The objective of this research was identify the level of self-esteem of the students of the Educational Unit "Capitán Edmundo Chiriboga". Riobamba October 2017-March-2018 in order to establish a relationship between self-esteem and the academic performance of students, the methodology used answers to the design of non-experimental research: since the variables were not manipulated. The respective analysis was carried out on self-esteem, academic performance and the relationship of the two variables. The type of applied research was descriptive because the characteristics of the problematic situation of the population in which it was worked were specified and afterwards all the information collected during the process was analyzed. There was also a field investigation since it was carried out in the place of the scene. This research is correlational because it allowed to relate the two variables that were the object of study for the development of the research project, the population was composed of the students of the Educational Unit "Captain Edmundo Chiriboga" and the sample was of 36 students belonging to the fifth year of Basic general education. It can be shown that the research was feasible to perform because it had the necessary literature to reach the conclusion that students have different levels of self-esteem, most are within the average self-esteem and could also verify that there are low levels of academic performance.
