| Zusammenfassung: | This research work presents the design of Fumes Toxic Extraction System generated in the Sterilizer Ethylene Oxide Service of the Sterilization Area of the General Hospital in Riobamba city. It is pretended to control the environmental impact and employees’ health. Hospital has two ethylene oxide sterilizer used to sterilize materials such as oxygen masks, hoses, ventilators, humidifiers for the purification of oxygen, plastic bottles and laparoscopy surgery instruments. This type of sterilization works at low temperatures and in this process is where this work is focused. The purpose of this research is to construct the fumes extraction system which involves the chemical process which releases toxic substances which affect the workers’ health when it is concentrated in medium quantities. With this work it is pretended to avoid the inhalation of the pollutant in the sterilization process which can cause diseases in the hospital staff with serious complications such as lung cancer, headaches, hypertension and other. This thesis project is related to the fumes extraction system to extract fumes produced by the sterilization process. When international standards are applied, it is possible to obtain great efficiency in the operation, control and retention of pollutants and also decreases occupational diseases and guaranties the correct functioning of the system which has to be observed in the maintenance manual provided by the equipment maker. As conclusion, system installation is doable. Structural analysis is carried out to hold the extractor and ducts and also it is planned a control system to turn on the extraction system only when required, (when sterilizer door is open). |
