The study is a quantitative, bibliographic, and field study with a cross-sectional, non-experimental, descriptive, and correlational design. The sample consisted of 100 educational records of the students. The psychological items used for data collection were: Steinberg's Parenting Styles Scale and the Internet Addiction Test (IAT). For the descriptive statistical analysis and correlation of the variables, SPSS version 25 was used. The results obtained indicated that: 42% of the sample presented a negligent parenting style; concerning the levels of Internet addiction, it was found that 44.4% of women showed a medium level of Internet addiction, and 47.3% of men had a high level of Internet addiction. Through the Chi-square test, a positive correlation (p<0.05) was obtained between the study variables, both for the female and male genders; therefore, the correlation shows that the use of inadequate parenting styles increases the presence of Internet addiction. In conclusion, the studied sample presents a negligent parenting style and high levels of Internet addiction, being predominant in the male gender. Keywords: parenting styles, neglectful, internet addiction, high school students. Reviewed by: Mgs. Hugo Romero ENGLISH PROFESSOR C.C. 0603156258 |
