Summary:This research work was carried out with the objective to determine how playful activities affect the social and affective development of children of the second level of kindergarten at the "Huayna Capac" school in Ambato city, Santa Rosa County, Cuatro Esquinas Community during the school period 2015—2016. The study was supported by the theoretical framework. The research design was non-experimental because variables were not manipulated. The type of research was descriptive and fíeld where the children and their environment were described. The level of the research was explorative because it was about a non-well-known subject. The population was 35 students in second level of kindergarten. In order to analyze the results, observation forms were used and after collecting the data they were tabulated and shown in graphs with their respective interpretation. The results showed that playful activities do allow children to improve their social and affective development. The teacher plays a very important role in the teaching process by carrying out playful activities as a way to improve the children social and emotional development allowing them to incorpórate to society with no difficulty. Children are able to have a better communication with others, make friends easily and show their affection in better way. Besides playful activities allow to improve their learning process. Games prepared for 4-5 agers boost their interest and help them be more communicative and expressive and they are great tools for teachers who want to give the children opportunities to grow in a comfortable environment.
