The informal situation with residential areas has forced local authorities to develop a process to expand the urban area, creating development plans to solve the problems these settlements cause. However, all these attempts need to move forward due to political instability. The overwhelming urban growth in the north of Riobamba and Guano (specifically the area of study in this investigation project) has been notorious, showing landscape, environmental, physical-spatial, and social problems. The ecological side is the most important and harmful due to all the damage caused to the "Las Abras" ravine and its surroundings. "Las Abras" is the territorial limit between the two cities mentioned before. Due to the necessity of solutions to problems the informal settlements cause, the current research focused on architectural urbanization, which will improve the quality of life and population zones. Moreover, transform this place into a sustainable area. This urban site offers the opportunity for the city to see sustainable development. Applying specific guidelines based on technical studies allows for better equipping the area with an urban infrastructure that will connect the two cities better, all this done systematically to recover and revitalize the sector. Therefore, this is a good starting point for re-conserving the urban structure: connected, compact, and reduces territorial over-expansion. |

El emplazamiento informal de áreas residenciales en la ciudad de Riobamba ha obligado a las entidades municipales a desarrollar procesos para la expansión del perímetro urbano, creando así planes de desarrollo (1990); que permitan solucionar las problemáticas que producen estos asentamientos; sin embargo, estos intentos proyectuales se ven desbordados por la falta de control e inestabilidades políticas. El impetuoso crecimiento urbano que se dio en la parte Norte de la ciudad de Riobamba y Guano específicamente en el área de estudio que comprende el presente proyecto de investigación; ha sido evidente, constatando de esta manera una problemática físico-espacial, social, paisajística y ambiental, siendo esta última la más relevante y perjudicial debido a la afectación desmedida que ha recibido la quebrada las Abras y su entorno natural, la misma que nace de los deshielos del Chimborazo y significa el límite territorial entre los dos cantones mencionados anteriormente. En la búsqueda de subsanar los problemas causados por los asentamientos informales en relación al borde natural, surge la presente tesis que aborda una intervención urbano arquitectónica; que incidirá en el buen vivir y la calidad habitacional de la población; asimismo, posibilite la transformación de este hábitat en un área sostenible. El escenario urbano a intervenir ubicado en la periferia norte de la ciudad de Riobamba y Guano representa una oportunidad para que estas ciudades presencien un desarrollo sostenible, por tal razón este proyecto es un punto de partida para la reconversión hacia una estructura urbana: conectada; compacta y cercana, de manera que se disminuya y se controle la expansión territorial no planificada.
