Summary:The purpose of this project is to investigate the communication strategies used by John Vinueza in the sectional elections, September 2018-March 2019. The communication theories on which the process was based was the Functionalist who studies social behavior, and the means of communication; the Structuralist who studies semiotics, and analyzes the forms of behavior, since each gesture, sound, representative image or communicates something. The methodological process used in this research had the methods: scientific, inductive-deductive, as well as types of research: descriptive, bibliographic, field, qualitative, quantitative. Be considered with a sample of 398 inhabitants of the five parishes of the city of urban Riobamba from 16 to 65 years. Among the most important results it is evident that 87% of the inhabitants did know John Vinueza; that the elements that most influenced electoral behavior with 38% were the proposals and strategies of the candidates including the fan page "Friends of John Vinueza", the simple speech that the candidate handled and the gigantographs with the motto "I I'm also John Vinueza. " The conclusions reached were the factor in the defeat of John Vinueza was the lack of work in the rural sector; In addition, people identified with the discourse strategy; The electoral behavior of the population was due to the proposals and strategies of the candidate managed through the digital tools and which was accepted by the young people.
