Summary:This thesis, titled "Professional Development and Competency Enhancement in Social Sciences Teachers," aims to diagnose the professional development needs and competency enhancement of Social Sciences teachers in the Riobamba canton, specifically within the educational institutions of La Salle, Nuestra Señora de Fátima, and Pedro Vicente Maldonado for the 2024-2025 academic year. This will be done through the application of surveys, interviews, and document analysis. Throughout the research, the study explores the various characteristics of teachers in their attempt to play a key role in improving educational quality. The research follows a mixed methodology (qualitative and quantitative), combining research tools such as interviews with teachers from the three educational institutions, alongside surveys to strengthen the data gathered from the interviews, as well as an analysis of the results. The evaluations are conducted by distinguishing between the before and after effects of implementing the designed plan. This research is based on a hypothesis that asserts that professional development will improve through the implementation of a plan designed with the specific needs identified by teachers in the initial evaluations (diagnostic phase). Early results highlight the main needs and obstacles faced by teachers in their daily work activities related to professional development for competency enhancement, and also offer recommendations to optimize the educational context. The results of this study will serve as a foundation for future pedagogical strategies and public policies aimed at promoting professional competency development and improving educational quality in the country.
