| Riassunto: | The vernacular architecture of the Guanando town is a site-specific construction system that utilizes local materials such as wood, quincha (wattle and daub), and stone. However, its gradual degradation and the empirical addition of industrial materials have led to a loss of identity, technical coherence, and habitability. This highlights the need to analyze its performance and propose modernization alternatives that do not compromise its cultural value. This research aims to analyze the existing vernacular architecture—its spatial, formal, and constructive patterns—and to establish criteria for its reinterpretation based on current needs." A qualitative approach was applied through architectural surveys, comparative housing analysis, evaluation of construction systems, interviews, and on-site verification. The results revealed that vernacular housing follows an efficient constructive rationality in its modulation, based on the useful length of timber, material compatibility, and passive climate control strategies. The analysis showed that these characteristics are lost due to unplanned alterations, material incompatibility, loss of structural regularity, and a lack of maintenance. The research demonstrated that these buildings are highly optimizable due to the simplicity of their structural system and the availability of local materials. This implies that the vernacular architecture of Guanando can be reinterpreted without losing authenticity, improving its thermal performance, material coherence, and modern functionality. The findings reveal that a contemporary, compatible, and modular construction system serves as a solution for the permanence and evolution of this architectural tradition. |
