| Resumo: | The primary objective of this study was to assess the levels of immediate visual memory among students enrolled in the Experimental Sciences Pedagogy programs— specifically in Chemistry and Biology, and Mathematics and Physics—at the Universidad Nacional de Chimborazo during the 2024-1S academic period. Immediate visual memory is a cognitive function that enables individuals to temporarily retain and reproduce visual information shortly after its presentation. This ability is essential for learning, particularly in disciplines that involve interpreting diagrams, formulas, and complex visual structures. The study employed a quantitative methodology, which involved the collection and analysis of numerical data to evaluate and compare the immediate visual memory abilities of different student groups. The study population comprised students from the Faculty of Education, Humanities, and Technologies, while the sample included first-semester students from the degree programs. A psychometric approach was used, with the ReyOsterrieth Complex Figure Test serving as the assessment instrument. The results revealed that both groups exhibited adequate levels of immediate visual memory, with no statistically significant differences observed between them. These findings underscore the relevance of visual memory in academic contexts and provide valuable insights for the development of pedagogical strategies aimed at enhancing students’ cognitive abilities in accordance with the specific demands of their disciplines. |
