الملخص:The research addressed funeral rituals in the San Francisco neighborhood of Colta canton, highlighting their role in preserving the cultural identity and social cohesion of the community. Aimed at analyzing the relevance of these rituals in transmitting values and traditions that strengthen the sense of belonging, the study arose from the need to understand the impact of globalization and migration on the continuity of traditional funeral practices. The methodology employed was qualitative, using interviews with community members to capture their perceptions of ritual practices and their beliefs about death and mourning. The results showed that funeral rituals in San Francisco included practices such as wakes, processions, and prayers in Kichwa and Spanish, reflecting a blend of indigenous and Catholic spirituality that reinforced community bonds. Symbolic elements, such as candles, flowers, and traditional foods, played important roles as they symbolized spiritual guidance and respect for the deceased, while also fostering unity during moments of mourning. However, an adaptation of these practices to modernity was also observed, with changes in the duration of wakes and community participation, particularly among younger generations, who showed less attachment to traditions. Despite this transformation, the rituals retained a central role in community cohesion, transmitting values such as respect, solidarity, and the community's historical memory. In conclusion, it was emphasized that funeral rituals helped cope with loss and strengthen collective identity, functioning as a means of cultural continuity. As a recommendation, fostering the participation of younger generations in these rituals through educational programs that highlight their value was proposed, ensuring their preservation in a context of social change. This study highlighted how funeral rituals in the San Francisco neighborhood acted not only as farewell ceremonies but also as pillars of cultural cohesion and identity in the face of modern challenges.
