| Crynodeb: | This research work will focus on the Cultural Food Heritage and Community Tourism of the Cacha district, a rural area just outside Riobamba Ecuador. Cacha was once the cradle of Puruha ethnicity but is now recognised as being disorganised and suffers from a lack of strategic planning in relation to their rich cultural food heritage. The current community tourism promotions are not only considered insufficient and wasted, but are also not seen as being an important element that could generate resources from tourism and thus boost the local economy. The aim of this study is to identify the most important factors that might contribute to improved tourism in Cacha based on their natural resources and wealth. Recognition must also be given to: The craft skills that the community possesses which include agriculture and textiles as potentials for economic and cultural development. Ancestral knowledge which will inform the fundamental approach of this research. The aim to rescue the Puruha cultural processes, traditions and values preserved until modern times but which are very little known in the tourist field. |
