| Summary: | The purpose of this research project was to determine the overload of primary caregivers of people with physical desabilities in the Penipe canton during the period May-August 2019; this is a descriptive, cross-sectional, qualitative-quantitative study. The population consisted of 28 unpaid carevigers; 13 women and 15 men who were providing direct care to their family members with physical disabilities, they participated automously and voluntarity through informed consent; Two validated instruments were applied, the Care Skills Inventory (CSI) that assesses the skill with wich this work is performed, and the Zarit test whose purpose is to identify the degree of overload to wich the caregiver is subject. The main results obtained in relation to tha sociodemographic characteristics of caregivers refer to the predominance of the male gender, aged between 40 and 64 years in relation to the time they use to dedicate to provide care, a large percentage of the population said to do so by over 37 months 24 hours a day. Regarding the ability, it was observed that a large part of the sample has a high degree of skill for the performance of the role and in relation to the overload, it was evident that most of the population presented a high overload degree. When comparing ability and overload, it could be concluded that when there is a greater skill degree, there will be an intense overload and when no skill is developed there will not be an overload. |
